Showerdome® Installation

If you love a hot, steamy shower, you might not love what it does to your bathroom. Excess steam leads to mould growth, moisture damage, fogged-up mirrors, and extra energy costs of leaving an extractor fan running.

A Showerdome installation is a simple, effective solution. Designed to trap warm air inside the shower, a Showerdome® keeps your bathroom steam-free, helping to prevent mould, reduce energy costs, and ensure your mirrors stay crystal clear.

What is a Showerdome?

A Showerdome is a clear acrylic dome installed on top of your shower cubicle, stopping steam from escaping into the rest of your bathroom. If your home lacks ventilation, or if you don’t enjoy showering with the window open, a Showerdome installation is the best way of keeping your bathroom steam-free without relying on energy-consuming extractor fans.

How does a Showerdome work?

When you shower, warm air rises and mixes with cooler bathroom air, creating steam and condensation. A Showerdome prevents this by keeping warm air inside the shower and blocking cool air from entering. The result? No steam, no foggy mirrors, and no excess moisture in your bathroom.

As the warm air reaches the acrylic dome, the moisture condenses into water droplets, which run down the sides of the dome and back into the shower instead of spreading through your bathroom. This means you’re not showering in a misty haze either!

Important installation tip

A Showerdome is ideal for acrylic shower cubicles but not recommended for tiled showers. Because tiled showers have grout and silicone, trapping moisture inside can increase the risk of mould growth. If you have a tiled shower, we recommend installing an energy-efficient extractor fan instead.

Showerdome benefits

Thinking about a Showerdome installation but wondering if it’s worth it? The benefits of a Showerdome® go far beyond making your extractor fan redundant:

Mist free mirrors and dry walls

No more wiping down fogged-up mirrors after every shower. With a Showerdome, moisture stays inside the shower, leaving your bathroom air-dry and your mirrors crystal clear.

Reduce energy costs

A Showerdome traps warm air inside the shower, meaning you don’t need to crank up the hot water to stay comfortable. Less heat loss = lower energy bills.

Prevent mildew and mould

Say goodbye to harsh chemicals, endless scrubbing, and tile cleaning. Since moisture stays inside the shower, your bathroom tiles and walls stay drier, starving mould and mildew of the damp conditions they need to grow.

No more slip hazards

Wet tiles can be a major slipping hazard, especially in family homes. A Showerdome reduces excess moisture in your bathroom, making your floors safer and drier.

Protect your bathroom fittings and decor

Over time, constant condensation can damage bathroom paintwork, wood cabinetry, and even bedroom furnishings in ensuite bathrooms. A Showerdome stops moisture from escaping, keeping your bathroom looking fresh for longer.

Showerdome sizes and shapes

Showerdomes come in a range of shapes and sizes to fit most home showers. The first step is identifying which Showerdome to install.

  1. Check the shape of your shower cubicle. Is it square, rectangular, triangular or curved?
  2. Measure the sides of the cubicle from inside the frame.
  3. Download and view the latest Showerdome shapes and sizes.
  4. Select the Showerdome that represents the closest fit to your cubicle.

To form a perfect seal, the correct size and shape will be custom-cut to fit your cubicle during the Showerdome installation.

FAQ

  • Do Showerdomes make showers hotter?

A Showerdome keeps warm air inside the shower cubicle, meaning your shower feels warmer without needing to increase the water temperature. While this helps reduce energy costs, the Showerdome also ensures you’re not showering in misty, humid air – giving you a clear, pleasant experience every time

  • How long does a Showerdome last?

A Showerdome® is made from durable, high-quality acrylic and is designed to last a lifetime with minimal maintenance. Unlike extractor fans, which require frequent cleaning and replacement, a Showerdome doesn’t degrade over time and continues to provide steam-free showers for years to come.

  • Can I put a Showerdome on my tiled shower?

Technically, yes, but we don't recommend it. A Showerdome traps moisture inside the shower cubicle, which works great for acrylic showers. However, tiled showers contain grout and silicone, both of which retain moisture and encourage mould growth if they stay wet for long periods.

If you have a tiled shower, a high-quality extractor fan is the best solution to manage steam and moisture buildup. For acrylic shower cubicles, a Showerdome is the perfect way to keep your bathroom steam-free, mould-resistant, and energy-efficient
