Tiled shower refurbishment

Your tiled shower will deteriorate with time. Our process will refurbish it back to new at a fraction of the price of replacement.

GroutPro's total shower refurbishment service

A tiled shower is an expensive investment and can cost thousands of dollars to replace. The various components – tile, grout, silicone, and glass, deteriorate over time and eventually require work of some sort.

GroutPro’s shower restoration process will make your shower look like the day it was installed without the cost, time, and mess, of replacement.

Deep clean of all surfaces

The entire shower enclosure is deep cleaned using our special solution which disolves all body fats, soap residue, mould, and other contaminants. This gives us a clean slate to then evaluate and replace the various components such as grout, and silicone.

Regrout of the shower base with epoxy grout

We replace the old, stained or damaged grout in the shower base with epoxy grout. Epoxy grout is the modern generation of grout for wet areas. Unlike traditional cement based grout, epoxy is 100% waterproof, and will not stain or harbour mould.

Regrout or recolour the grout in the walls

The grout in the shower walls is either removed and replaced with epoxy grout (if damaged), or Coloursealed with our amazing topical sealer that recolours the grout and seals it making it 100% waterproof and stainproof.

Replace the silicone

The silicone in the corners of your shower is susceptible to mould over time. This is carefully removed and replaced with fresh silicone. This process may have to be done more frequently than the original silicone installed when the shower was new, as mould will likely be present behind the tiles that we cannot get to.

Restore clarity to glass panels

Clarity is returned to the glass door and screens using our restoration process that removes mineral etching. A protector coating is applied to prevent etching from occuring in the future.

The end product

The end result is a shower that looks like it did when first installed.

The process is completed within a few days rather than the weeks it would take to demolish and replace – requiring plumbers, builders, tilers, etc; and at a cost of a tenth of replacement.

There is little mess and disruption to the household other than the shower being out of use for up to a week.

    FAQ

    • How long does a shower glass coating last?

A professional glass coating like Enduroshield Professional can last for years, unlike DIY coatings that require reapplication every few months. It forms an invisible barrier that repels soap scum, water stains, and mineral buildup, helping to keep your shower glass cleaner for longer.

    • What is the best way to clean my shower glass?

To keep your shower glass clear, we recommend using a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft cloth or squeegee after each use. Avoid harsh chemicals, scouring pads, or acidic cleaners, as these can damage the surface and create more scratches. For long-term protection, a shower glass coating like Enduroshield Professional is best.

    • How do I know my silicone needs replacement?

If you notice peeling, cracks, mould stains, or gaps in your shower sealant, it’s time for a professional silicone replacement. Worn-out silicone can lead to water leaks, structural damage, and costly repairs if left untreated.

    • How long will my shower be out of action if I have it restored?

This really depends on what is being replaced/restored as there are curing times between stages. The work can take anywhere from a day to 5 days, and once completed you will need to allow the products to cure for 2-3 further days.

If you have more than one shower being restored it is best to do them one at a time so you have one in operation at all times.

    • Can you repair a leaking shower?

This depends on the leak and the construction of the shower.

If a shower is leaking through a wall into an adjacent room, there is a failure with the waterproofing membrane behind the tiles. This cannot be repaired without a major deconstruction of the shower and can be very costly. Simply replacing failed grout and silicone, which may look like it is waterproofed the area, is not a solution that can be guaranteed.

If the leak is within the bathroom (shower enclosure to bathroom floor), it may simply be that a silicone seal has deteriorated and needs to be replaced.

GroutPro often finds that leaks are actually attributed to plumbing failures.

    • How long does silicone stay mould free in a shower?

The lifespan of mould-free silicone depends on daily maintenance. Moisture, heat, and soap residue create the perfect conditions for mould growth. To reduce mould buildup, we recommend:

      • Use a good, energy-efficient extractor fan while showering.
      • Wipe down your shower after each use to remove excess moisture.

A brand-new shower with clean, dry conditions can stay mould-free for years, but as moisture builds behind tiles over time, mould spores can spread beneath the silicone. This growth means that subsequent silicone replacements may not last as long as the original installation. On average, shower silicone should be replaced every two years, but some bathrooms may need more frequent attention.

    • What kind of grout is best for a wet area such as a shower?

Epoxy grout is recommended in wet areas as it is waterproof and much more resistant to staining. We regrout shower bases with Epoxy to provide the longest lasting solution. Grout on shower walls can be protected using our Colourseal grout sealer, which provides similar protection to Epoxy grout but with no regrouting required (which eliminates any chance of minor damage to the tiles).

    • Why can’t I get the water marks off my shower glass?

Water spotting is caused by minerals such as calcium, lime, and iron in the water supply sticking to the microscopic pores of the glass. When water droplets are left on the surface, they evaporate, leaving behind these stubborn stains. Over time, these minerals build up and block the clarity of the glass.

Removing them requires specialist abrasive products and professional techniques to restore up to 80 - 90% shower glass clarity. However, in some cases, severely etched glass may not be fully restorable. The best way to minimise water marks is to wipe down your glass after every shower.
