Our retired homeowners have a gorgeous home set back from the edge of Lake Taupo. A large multi-level deck off the main living area gives amazing indoor outdoor flow, however the summer sun made this outdoor area almost unbearable due to excess heat and lack of shade. Strategically placed sun umbrellas just didn’t provide the flexibility required to make this their favourite outdoor spot.
Our Hauraki pergola was perfect for this situation. A flexible design enabled us to maximise the coverage, encompassing two sliding doorways into the living area.
Some decking boards were lifted to install additional sub-structure for the pergola to bolt into, and then the custom sized structure was assembled on site over a two day period. The pergola included fully motorised roller blinds on three sides allowing the homeowners to block wind and rain from any side, or close the space completely creating an additional room.
Electrical connections were made using a local electrician.
Our homeowners now have a space that can truly control the elements. No longer do they bake in the summer sun, or freeze in the autumn southerly. The combination of an adjustable roof (completely closed to full sun), and adjustable blinds, allow for just the right amount of light, shade, and breeze, at the push of a button.
